ECEG Position Paper on the Commission’s Public Consultation on Gender Equality in the EU

ECEG Position Paper on the Commission’s Public Consultation on Gender Equality in the EU

29/05/19

The European Commission launched a public consultation (8 March – 31 May 2019)  to gather inputs from a broad range of stakeholders on gender equality in the EU at present as well as future priorities.

The European Chemical Employers Group (ECEG) answered to the consultation and drafted its position paper on the current situation of this fundamental right. It underlines the need to establish gender equality priorities also after the 2019 elections, as well as to pay special attention to women’s economic empowerment and encourage projects and trainings which aim at making STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education programmes and professions more attractive to women. The ECEG position paper also stresses the extremely comprehensive current EU legislation on gender equality and work-life balance. Instead of introducing new rules, the ECEG firmly believes that EU gender-equality actions should rather focus on a more efficient application of existing laws and on a better coordination in the exchange of good practices among Member States and local entities.
